Pickleball Injuries? How Regenerative Medicine in Virginia Beach Can Get You Back in the Game

Pickleball is booming, but so are injuries. Learn how Barr Center in Virginia Beach uses cutting-edge, non-surgical treatments like PRP, stem cell therapy, and prolotherapy to help you recover from common pickleball injuries and return to the game pain-free.

Pickleball is not just a passing trend, it is a full-blown movement. With courts popping up everywhere and more players joining daily, this fast-paced sport is capturing the hearts (and joints) of active adults across the country.

But while the sport is fun and accessible, the repetitive motions, quick pivots and hard surfaces take a toll. As more people pick up paddles, physicians are seeing a rise in overuse injuries—especially in the shoulders, knees, elbows and ankles.

At the Barr Center for Pain and Regenerative Therapies in Virginia Beach, we’ve seen a significant rise in overuse injuries among active adults playing pickleball at local recreation centers and clubs. But you do not have to sit out the season—or resort to surgery—to heal. We diagnose the problem quickly and provide non-surgical treatment—specializing in regenerative therapies for sports injuries that support your body’s natural healing abilities, getting you back on the court faster and stronger.

Common Pickleball Injuries We See

If you have played for more than a few weeks, chances are you have felt the strain in at least one of these areas:

Pickleball Elbow– Much like tennis elbow, this condition stems from repetitive swinging motions that cause microtears in the tendons around the elbow. Rotator Cuff Tendonitis or Tears – Frequent overhead shots and serves can lead to inflammation—or even small tears—in the rotator cuff. Knee Pain– Sudden directional changes place stress on the knees, resulting in joint pain, stiffness or cartilage damage. Achilles Tendinitis– Quick sprints and stops can inflame the Achilles tendon, especially in players with tight calves or insufficient warm-up routines. Plantar Fasciitis– Heel pain is common due to constant pounding on hard courts, particularly with improper footwear. https://barrcenter.com/staging-2025/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/BarrCenter_How-Regenerative-Medicine-Helps-Heal-Common-Pickleball-Injuries_Inline-e1754400533414.jpg

Why These Injuries Linger

Most overuse injuries involve tendons and ligaments—tissues that have poor blood flow and limited self-repair capacity. While rest, ice or cortisone shots might provide short-term relief, they do not always address the root issue: tissue degeneration and inflammation.

This is where regenerative medicine comes in. Barr Center offers non-surgical treatments that activate your body’s own healing mechanisms. These include:

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy – We draw a small amount of your blood, concentrate the healing platelets and inject them directly into the injured area. PRP is highly effective for: Tennis/pickleball elbow, rotator cuff injuries and tendonitis. We even use PRP for chronic lower back and neck pain.

Prolozone Therapy – This therapy combines ozone gas with nutrients to reduce inflammation and stimulate healing. It is particularly beneficial for knee and joint pain, soft tissue injuries and chronic back or shoulder pain.

Prolotherapy – We inject a dextrose-based solution to intentionally trigger mild inflammation—kickstarting the body’s repair process. It is commonly used for joint instability, sprains and ligament damage and degenerative disc disease. Stem Cell Therapy for Sports Injuries – For more severe injuries or cartilage loss, we offer stem cell injections derived from your own body. These cells support deep tissue regeneration, making them ideal for: advanced osteoarthritis, meniscus injuries, partial tendon or ligament tears.

In addition to injections, peptides such as BPC 157 can also be helpful in healing, as well as low level laser therapy.

Back on the Court—Pain-Free

Whether you are a weekend warrior or competing in local tournaments, pain should not sideline your game. At Barr Center, our regenerative therapies help you return to play safely, naturally and often without surgery.

If you are dealing with persistent joint or tendon pain after playing—and curious about these therapies, we can help. Call The Barr Center for Pain and Regenerative Therapies at 757- 578-2260 to schedule your evaluation—and get back to pickleball, pain-free.
